Day 16 – Walk in the Spirit
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
It is so easy to govern our lives by what we feel, what things look like, and by what we think. However, what we feel, see, or think may not be consistent with what our spirit is saying. The Bible says that “God is a spirit.” Since God is a spirit, when you became “born again” you also became a “born again spirit.” That means that God speaks to you and leads you by your spirit. Your flesh, your emotions, and even your logical thoughts are not the way that God leads you. God leads you by your spirit. The more mature you become as a Christian, the more you should recognize God leading you and speaking to you through and by your born again spirit.
At some point, in your Christian development, you must have the confidence in the voice of God to your spirit. You can not spend your life in the state of spiritual confusion asking: “Is that God? Is that the devil? Or Is that me?” Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27).
As you go through this month, there will be the temptation to respond in the flesh, react in our emotions, or merely to do the “logical” thing but I want to encourage you to listen to your spirit and “walk in the spirit.” As we walk in the spirit, we will stay on the “path of righteousness” and end up in our “wealthy place.”
One of the benefits of fasting is to weaken and de-emphasize your flesh, while you strengthen and focus on your spirit. I believe with you that this month and this year, you will hear God and know His voice like never before.
Faith Stretching Exercises:
1. After praying and making your confessions, spend time just listening to the voice of your spirit.
2. Write down the things, instructions, etc. that God speaks to your spirit.
3. Practice God’s presence by talking to Him, asking questions, and then waiting in His presence for His response.
4. Scripture meditations: Romans 8:5-14, Galatians 5:16-18; Prov. 20:7
