Day 4 – God Can Do It You Know
“Is anything too hard for the Lord?… Genesis 18:14
My grandson, Righteous, is a very precocious kid of seven years. He never ceases to amaze our family with this thoughts and statements. On one occasion, as I was driving him and his sister from church, I laughed at a wishful thought that he had just expressed. He quickly and passionately responded: “God can do it you know!” Immediately, we responded: “Yes, Righteous you are correct because God can do anything.”
Like I did to my grandson’s childish wish, Sarah also laughed at the thought that she and Abraham could even conceive, let alone give birth to, a natural child. So when the angel told Abraham that they would indeed have a child, Sarah overheard it and laughed at the far-fetched idea. The angel of God then asked Abraham: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”
For those of us who are willing to stretch our faith, we must affirmatively respond with an overwhelming: “No, there is nothing too hard for the Lord!” In the words of my grandson, “God can do it you know.” What is it that you think is silly to believe God to do? “God can do it you know.” I know it’s been a long time but “God can do it you know.” How much money do you need? “God can do it you know.” I know what the doctor said but “God can do it you know!”
The Message translation of Ephesians 3:20 reads: “God can do anything you know — far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!” Finally, Abraham and Sarah did give birth to Isaac when he was 100 and she was 90.
Faith Stretching Exercises:
1. What is it that you are afraid to ask God to do because it seems too hard?
2. Make the decision to take the limits off of God and off of your faith.
3. Declare seven times out loud and right now: “God can do it you know!”
