Day 14 – Dare to Ask
“Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.” Psalm 2:8 (NLT)
As a child, my third son Daniel, who is now an International Professional Basketball Player, had no fear of asking me for anything. I can recall that as a young adolescent of the age of 10 or 11, he would come into my study or room where I was sitting and ask: “Hey dad, can I have $1,000!” I once got a little annoyed and said: “Why would you ask me for $1,000?” I’ll never forget his response. He said: “I just figured that I would ask because you might say yes.” When I understood his childhood reasoning, I stopped getting annoyed and started admiring his faith. Even as I write this, I now realize that even as he got older he received things from me that he otherwise would have never received if he didn’t dare to ask.
What are you afraid to ask God for? What do you have to lose by believing big and daring to ask big? God can do it, you know! There is nothing too hard for God. There is nothing too big for God. So, there is nothing we could dare to ask that would annoy Him because it’s not beyond His resources or ability.
Jesus said: “Ask and it shall be given you….” (Matthew 7:7). James said: “…ye have not, because ye ask not.” The old hymn of the church says: “Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear; all because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer.”
